History of the Farm Judge Scott Klukos, who passed away in December of 2011, donated to the college a 6.7 acre plot of land on the edge of town to be used by the MC Garden. It was transformed into mini-farm that focuses on producing blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries.
In April of 2013, the Garden Crew began developing a 6.7 acre parcel of land by planting the apple and peach orchard, nut trees, and a strawberry plot. That year they broke ground on a high tunnel that was finished in the Spring of 2016. Built to extend the growing season, it was planted in greens in November and first harvested early in 2017. The Garden Crew for 2014 planted raspberries, more strawberries, blueberries, asparagus, and garlic. Professor Vivian added beehives and Professor Sturgeon planted a sweet potato plot for a SOfIA project. 2015 During the summer of 2016, the garden crew bought 26 chicks of various breeds to raise as laying hens and they converted a small cargo trailer into a chicken coop with a shaded back porch. After finding that more than half of the chickens were roosters and a visit from a hungry predator, the farm was left with 4 laying hens for the summer of 2017.
