Notes:
Fruit trees: We have devised a brilliant watering system for out 16 fruit trees: We took 4 five gallon buckets and drilled three small holes on one end of the bottom of each bucket. When then place the bucket on the up hillside of the trunk, with the holes closest to the trunk, and fill the buckets. Over fifteen minutes the water trickles out, with little to no run off.
Compost: Wet down the compost Because of the high heat, and the lack of moisture, most of the worms in the compost appear to have died. Keep it light, but moist.
Sunflower harvest: When the seeds have fully formed and the small flowers begin to fall off, cut the stem one to two feet from the head of the flower and hang in a cool, ventilated place. We have them on our staircase since our garages are much too hot.
Watering rosemary: When the tips of the leaves begin to turn dark brown this means the plant is receiving too much water. Counterintuitive? Yes, it is.
Pawpaw trees: We want them!Kids Tours: After we showed the kids around the garden we barely had any time for activities. It may be good to show them around less so they have more time to get their hands dirty. They loved sampling the different foods, though many surprisingly did not like the honey. They all seemed to love painting their own handprint on the garage wall.
