Tasks:
· We Saved the Raspberries! o Professor Watson drew our attention to the Raspberry patch which was in desperate need of weeding because of grasses and alfalfa which had taken over. It was our worst looking plot, but the 4 of us dedicated our 4 morning hours to hand weeding the raspberry rows and tilling between the rows and by the end of the morning the plot was clean! o Throughout the week we continued to mulch the plot along the rows, heavily with straw. We had a rainy week so we didn’t need to water. · WE GOT A TRACTOR! 6/3/14 o This CHANGES THINGS. In terms of the farm, we were able to continually cut alfalfa and maintain it around the plots edges. We can finally clean up the farm all in one go. We use the mower attachment on the tractor to clean up large sections of the farm, and continue using the mower attachment on Fabio for smaller or tight spaces. · Began spraying BT on brassicas and sulfur on apple trees. · Planted: cucurbits-cucumbers, winter squash, summer squash, · Blocked: flowers · Made tomato cages! Notes: Tomato Cages: This is a much quicker process with three people, as opposed to two! And less dangerous! We cute the cages using re-mesh, each cage 9 squares. We found that we were still short on cages, so we decided to take the old cages and stack them atop one another. Even though the cages are narrower than we’d like, we decided the height of them will be worth it. |
